Fayetteville: The Soul of NWA

Jump in the car with me for a short drive to a college town that grew up without losing its heart.

Fayetteville is the cultural counterweight to Bentonville — eclectic, creative, and unapologetically itself. It’s home to the University of Arkansas, which means a youthful energy, a thriving arts scene, and a downtown (Dickson Street) that’s famous for a reason.

The trade-off? It’s a 30–40 minute commute up I-49 to Bentonville. For many, that’s worth it for what Fayetteville offers: TheatreSquared’s professional productions, one of the best public libraries in the country, and a food scene that punches way above its weight.

The Neighborhoods

  • Washington-Willow — Historic, walkable, steps from downtown and Dickson Street.
  • Mount Sequoyah — Hilltop charm, mature trees, and sweeping views.
  • Wilson Park — The beloved neighborhood around Fayetteville’s iconic park.
  • Gulley Park — Family-friendly, near the summer concert series.
  • Root School — A classic, established neighborhood with a strong community feel.

The honest part: Fayetteville isn’t for everyone — the commute is real, and the energy skews younger and more “keep Fayetteville funky.” But if you want a town with a soul, this is it.

Next week: the city that quietly does everything well — Rogers.
